Workforce & HR · Skills gap analysis

Your L&D budget is funding training for skills your team already has

Banao builds AI-driven skills gap analysis that maps what your workforce can actually do against what every role requires — so training spend targets the real gaps, and hiring covers only what cannot be built in-house.

The system pulls from interview assessments, manager reviews, project history, and credentials — not a one-off survey that goes stale in a quarter. It is the same capability-mapping logic we run on our own engineering bench every week.

What we build

What a Banao skills gap analysis system includes

A skills map is only as useful as the data that keeps it current. We build the inventory and the signals that update it.

A live workforce skills inventory

We build a structured capability map across your organisation — skills classified by domain, proficiency level, and coverage — drawn from real work data, not self-reported spreadsheets.

Role-to-capability gap mapping

Every role definition is expressed in skills terms, then matched against what the team actually carries. The output is a ranked gap list, not a colour-coded heat map with no next action.

Build-vs-hire scoring

For each prioritised gap, the system scores whether internal development or external hiring closes it faster and at lower cost, with the assumptions visible so a decision-maker can challenge them.

Internal mobility matching

Skills data that already sits in the system surfaces which employees are ready for open roles or stretch assignments — so internal candidates get a fair look before a job post goes out.

Training prioritisation and budget allocation

L&D spend is ranked by gap severity, business-unit criticality, and available development path. The output is a prioritised training plan, not a wish list.

Continuous signal — not a one-off survey

Completed projects, interview assessments, certifications, and manager feedback all feed the map automatically, so it does not require an annual refresh to stay accurate.

Dogfooding

We run capability mapping on our own engineering bench first

Banao runs a ~300-person engineering company on its own AI products. InterviewGod assesses every engineering candidate's skills against the actual requirements of the role — not a generic rubric. That assessment data feeds back into understanding where our technical bench is strong and where we need to hire.

The skills-mapping logic we sell is the same logic we depend on for our own staffing decisions. We are not demonstrating a whiteboard concept; we are handing you an operating system.

InterviewGod

Assesses skills for every Banao engineering hire; data feeds the internal capability map.

Vikaas

Runs Banao's own demand-gen pipeline, informed by internal capability data.

The honest version

When skills gap analysis is the wrong starting point

A skills map is not the answer to every workforce problem. We will tell you before you build one:

  • Small teams: if you have fewer than fifty people, a good manager already knows who can do what. An AI skills system adds overhead without insight.
  • Data you cannot maintain: skills data decays fast. If there is no process to feed it — assessments, project outcomes, certifications — the map will be wrong within six months and trusted less than the one it replaced.
  • When retention is the real problem: if your best people are leaving, a skills inventory tells you what you are losing, not why. If attrition is the cause of the gap, solve that first.

How we start

How we start — understand the gap before building the system

Most organisations have skills data in pieces. We find it first, so the sprint does not start with a blank sheet.

  1. 01

    AI Discovery Sprint

    2 weeks · fixed price

We audit your current data sources — HRIS, LMS, interview records, performance data — and hand back a prioritised skills gap map for one business unit, with a view of where the data is reliable and where it has holes. Yours to keep. If you proceed, the Sprint is credited against the build.

  2. 02

    Build

Skills taxonomy design, data integration from your HRIS and LMS, and the gap-mapping and scoring engine — delivered as a production system, not a prototype.

  3. 03

    Production & continuous update

The system feeds from ongoing signals — assessments, certifications, project completions — so L&D and talent acquisition use a live map, not a quarterly snapshot.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What data sources feed the skills inventory?

We pull from HRIS records, LMS completion data, structured interview assessments, manager reviews, project records, and external credentials where they exist. The Discovery Sprint establishes which sources are reliable enough to trust and which need a quality filter before they enter the map.

How do you keep skills data current without an annual survey?

The system ingests signals continuously — a completed certification, a closed project, an interview result — and updates proficiency estimates automatically. Manual check-ins are reserved for skills that have no observable signal, which is usually a small fraction of the map.

Does this integrate with our HRIS and LMS?

Yes. Banao integrates with the HR and learning systems you already run. The skills map sits on top of your existing data rather than requiring a platform replacement. Integration scope is confirmed in the Discovery Sprint.

How do you handle sensitive performance and assessment data?

Skills data and performance records stay in your environment under your access controls. We design data flows to your retention and access-control requirements from week one — not as a post-launch patch. Aggregated views are the default; individual-level data requires explicit role-based access.

What is the difference between this and a training-needs assessment?

A training-needs assessment is a point-in-time audit that produces a training plan. This is a live system: it maps capability continuously, scores build-vs-hire options, surfaces internal mobility candidates, and feeds L&D prioritisation every quarter — not just when HR schedules the next survey.
