Workforce & HR · Video interview screening

Video interviews without a scoring rubric produce noise, not a shortlist

Banao deploys AI-scored video interview screening that watches, transcribes, and grades every first-round response against the same structured rubric — before any recruiter opens a recording.

The result is a ranked shortlist with written score rationale attached, so hiring managers see why a candidate cleared the bar, not just that they did. We run this model on our own hiring before it reaches yours.

Banao — in-house hiring— InterviewGod runs structured video screens for every engineering applicant before a panel spends time on them.

What we build

What Banao deploys in a video screening build

A video screen is not a recording and a hope. It is structured questions, consistent scoring, an audit trail, and a hiring-manager interface that makes review fast.

Structured question delivery

Every candidate receives the same questions in the same order, so the comparison is between answers — not between who got a warmer interviewer on a Friday afternoon.

AI scoring against your rubric

Responses are transcribed and scored against the criteria you set for the role: communication clarity, technical accuracy, structured reasoning. The rubric is yours, not a generic template.

Written score rationale on every call

Each score comes with a written explanation — which part of the answer contributed, and how. Recruiters can audit every decision rather than accepting a ranking they cannot interrogate.

Calibration across cohorts

The model is calibrated against your historical hire and no-hire decisions, so scoring tightens with each intake cycle rather than drifting from the standard your best interviewers hold.

Hiring manager review interface

Managers see the ranked shortlist, the score breakdown, and key answer clips — so a first-round review takes minutes rather than a full afternoon of sequential video watching.

ATS and workflow integration

Invitations, reminders, and outcomes write back into your applicant tracking system automatically. Recruiters stop copying results between tools by hand.

Banao — in-house hiring

InterviewGod handles structured video screens for every engineering applicant

··%
first-round screens AI-scored
··hrs
interviewer time saved per hire
··×
faster shortlist to panel

Banao runs a continuous engineering hiring pipeline for a ~300-person team. InterviewGod delivers the structured video screen to every applicant, scores responses against the role rubric, and surfaces a ranked shortlist with rationale before a single panel member watches a recording.

A high-volume technology recruiter

Video screening time cut from days of review to a ranked list by morning

··%
recruiter review time removed
··%
candidate drop-off reduced

A recruiter handling hundreds of applicants per role was watching recordings sequentially over two days. Banao's AI screening delivered a scored, ranked shortlist overnight — with written rationale on each candidate — so the team spent the next morning on second rounds, not first-round video.

Dogfooding

We run our own hiring on the model before yours

InterviewGod has screened Banao's own engineering hires every week for years. Before a candidate panel sees anyone, the system has already delivered a structured video screen, scored it, and returned a ranked list with rationale to our talent team. That is the product, not a demo of it.

Running a screening model under real hiring pressure — quarterly growth, diverse role types, real candidates with real expectations — hardens it in ways a controlled trial does not. When you adopt this system, you are adopting a production model, not a pilot.

The honest version

When video interview screening is the wrong tool

Not every role should go through a video screen, and we will say so before you build one:

  • Senior and executive hires: at the VP level and above, a structured video format rarely adds signal over a direct conversation. We will tell you to skip it for those roles.
  • Roles requiring physical or hands-on demonstration: if the job's core skill cannot be shown in a verbal answer, a video screen captures the wrong thing. A practical test or portfolio review is a better gate.
  • Teams without governance capacity: a scoring model can drift or encode bias without someone watching it. If you do not have a recruiter or HR lead who will audit scoring patterns quarterly, we will not ship it.

How we start

How we start — look at your actual funnel first

Before quoting a video screening build, we need to see your current first-round process: where time goes, where candidates drop, and what a clear hiring bar actually looks like for your top roles.

  1. 01

    AI Discovery Sprint

    2 weeks · fixed price

We audit your current video or phone screen process, map the volume and drop-off, and define the rubric structure your best interviewers already use implicitly. You leave with a scoring framework, a feasibility read, and ROI maths — yours to keep. If you proceed, the Sprint cost is credited against the build.

  2. 02

    Build

Question set, rubric, and scoring model built to your role types. ATS and calendar integration, hiring manager interface, and audit logging are deliverables — not add-ons configured later.

  3. 03

    Production & calibration

Live rollout with recruiter override on every decision, a calibration loop against your actual hire outcomes, and change management for the talent team. The model sharpens with each intake cycle.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will AI video screening introduce bias into our hiring?

It can, which is why the audit trail and governance model are non-negotiable parts of the build — not optional add-ons. We train on role-relevant signals, require a human override on every reject, log the reason for each score, and support quarterly fairness audits. The goal is a screen you can explain to a regulator.

How do candidates experience the video screen?

Structured async video screens generally rate better with candidates than inconsistent phone calls — clearer prompts, flexibility to record at a convenient time, and faster responses back. We design the prompt and flow for candidate experience alongside scoring accuracy.

What happens to candidates rejected at the video screen?

A human recruiter reviews every reject list before it closes. The model flags, it does not decide. Rejected candidates receive a response within the timeline you set — faster than most unscored pipelines manage.

Does it work with the ATS and tools we already use?

Yes. Banao integrates with the applicant tracking system, calendar, and communication tools you run today. Invitations, completions, scores, and outcomes write back automatically. Integration is part of the build deliverable.

How many roles and question types can the system handle?

The system supports multiple role families, each with its own question set and rubric — not a single generic screen applied to every applicant. During the Discovery Sprint we map your role taxonomy and identify where a shared rubric holds and where roles need distinct question sets.
